Southern Palladium Limited (dual-listed ASX:SPD / JSE:SDL) holds a 70% interest, via its subsidiary Miracle Upon Miracle Investments (Pty) Ltd, in the Bengwenyama platinum-group-metals and chrome project on South Africa's eastern Bushveld Complex, roughly 250km north-east of Pretoria. South Africa's Department of Mineral and Petroleum Resources granted a 30-year mining right for the project on 7 August 2026, the culmination of an application first lodged in October 2023, ahead of a Definitive Feasibility Study now targeted for Q1 2027. An October 2024 Pre-Feasibility Study reported a maiden JORC Probable Ore Reserve of 6.29 million ounces (6.17g/t 6E PGM) on the UG2 reef alone, against a much larger combined UG2 + Merensky JORC Mineral Resource of roughly 40.25 million ounces (6E, Measured + Indicated + Inferred). Facing financing headwinds under that original single-stage plan, the company completed an Optimised PFS (announced 10 July 2025) restructuring development into two stages: Stage 1 targets approximately 200,000oz of PGMs-in-concentrate per year for roughly US$279 million in peak funding (down from the original plan's US$452 million), with Stage 2 later ramping to 400,000oz+ per year. On a 100%-project basis at a US$1,557/6E oz PGM basket price assumption, the Optimised PFS shows a post-tax NPV8 of approximately US$857 million and a 26.4% IRR. Improved metallurgical test work in 2026 lifted expected chrome recoveries from roughly 30% to 65%, adding by-product revenue without extra capex. The company held A$23.88 million cash as at 30 June 2026 to fund DFS completion and other project activities, targeting a box-cut start before the end of 2026.

Milestones are recorded only from a company's own dated disclosure. A milestone with no date shown is one we can confirm was reached but for which no date was disclosed — we don't estimate one. "Not yet reached" means exactly that, not that a date is missing. An "Expected" line likewise only ever reflects the company's own guidance (e.g. a study or permit decision targeted for a stated quarter) — most not-yet-reached milestones have none, and that absence means no such guidance has been disclosed, not that one is overdue.

Unlikely bolt-onFits the takeout profile

A relative ranking of how closely this company matches the profile of juniors that have actually been acquired — not a probability, and not a reason to buy. Acquisitions are rare: only a few dozen significant deals happen a year across a universe of thousands of juniors, so even a high score here describes a long shot. The strongest signal the underlying research identifies — whether a major already holds a JV, earn-in, or 5–19.9% strategic stake — isn't tracked yet and is absent from this score.

Technical Report Takeaways

commodity=OTHER: no PLATINUM/PGM value exists in the Commodity enum, so this PGM-chrome project is recorded as OTHER, consistent with how this schema handles other PGM-primary companies. stage=PERMITTING reflects the 7 Aug 2026 mining-right grant (the core legal right to build/operate) alongside an already-completed PFS and Optimised PFS -- ahead of a formal DFS (targeted Q1 2027), a real case of South Africa's permitting process outpacing the economic-study sequence rather than a stage claim invented ahead of evidence; see the PERMIT_GRANTED milestone row added below. dcfNpvUsd/irrPct/initialCapexUsd/technicalReportPriceAssumptionUsd below are the Jul 2025 Optimised PFS's restated figures (100%-project basis; Southern Palladium holds 70%), which supersede the original Oct 2024 PFS's now-outdated US$1.059B NPV / 28% IRR / US$385M capex figures under the prior single-stage plan -- see projectOwnershipPct for the 70% attributable share. mineLifeYears and aiscValue deliberately NOT written: sources disagree on mine life under the new staged plan (29yr single-stage-era estimate vs an ambiguous ~20yr restatement) by a wide enough margin to be a real methodological difference rather than noise, and no AISC figure restated under the new staged plan was found this pass -- both left unwritten rather than guessed. See commit/task notes for full sourcing.
