Strategic Metals Ltd. (TSXV: SMD) is a large-scale, long-running Yukon project generator -- per its own May 2026 disclosure, a portfolio of 79 wholly-owned exploration properties (the product of over 50 years of the company's own regional exploration and research), 18 NSR royalty interests, and 15 properties currently under option to other companies (e.g. 11 Tombstone Gold Belt projects optioned as a package; a Yukon copper-gold porphyry property optioned to GT Resources Inc.; the Harvest project sold outright, creating another royalty). In July 2026 it granted GGL Resources a two-stage option to earn up to 100% of the Hopper, Kluane, Batt and Moraine copper-gold properties in south-western Yukon (70% for $10,000,000 of exploration by the end of 2029 plus shares, then the remaining 30% for $3,000,000), with Strategic keeping a 2% net smelter return royalty; both companies' disinterested shareholders approved it on 31 Aug 2026. Its most advanced project is the wholly owned Division Mountain coal deposit north of Whitehorse, which carries an NI 43-101 measured resource of 52.5 million tonnes of bituminous coal and an August 2026 preliminary economic assessment of an open-pit mine supplying a planned 100 MW coal-fired power plant; none of its precious- or base-metal properties carries a compliant resource. The company's distinctive value is its royalty/option portfolio plus a large set of equity stakes built through project farm-outs and investments in other public explorers: 32% of GGL Resources Corp., 31.9% of Broden Mining Ltd., 28.0% of Rockhaven Resources Ltd., 15.6% of Silver Range Resources Ltd., and 15 million shares of Terra CO2 Technologies. Commodity exposure across the portfolio spans gold, silver, lead, zinc, copper, tin, tungsten, vanadium and lithium across porphyry, skarn, epithermal-vein, orogenic-gold, sedex and CRD deposit styles; gold is shown as its main commodity because it is the most consistently recurring theme across the Yukon portfolio (Tombstone Gold Belt among others).

  • Jurisdiction (40%)8/10

Yukon: Fraser PPI 2025 is 62.19 of 100 (rank 47 of 68), which maps to 8 on this site's scale. Strategic Metals' properties are in Yukon. Yukon has Canadian rule of law, but mining executives rate its policy climate below Canada's leading provinces.

  • Infrastructure (40%)5/10

No confirmed mill and confirmed road access at Division Mountain Coal Project, north of Whitehorse, south-central Yukon, Canada; grid power and tailings facility not yet researched, counted at a neutral 5/10 until established.

  • Nearby producing mine (20%)Not yet researched

No producing mine within 50 km in our reference list (nearest listed: Kensington (Coeur Mining, Inc.), 279 km). That list doesn't cover every mining district yet, so a longer distance isn't scored as remote.

Acquisition Susceptibility

How this is calculated
3.9/10
Unlikely bolt-onFits the takeout profile

A relative ranking of how closely this company matches the profile of juniors that have actually been acquired — not a probability, and not a reason to buy. Acquisitions are rare: only a few dozen significant deals happen a year across a universe of thousands of juniors, so even a high score here describes a long shot. The strongest signal in the research, a producer that already owns part of the company, is scored from its disclosed strategic shareholders. A producer that is a joint-venture or earn-in partner on the project, rather than a shareholder, isn't captured yet.

Not scored: most juniors that do get bought had no prior toehold, so a missing stake says little either way.

Strategic Metals Ltd. generates and stakes exploration projects, then brings in joint-venture partners to fund the drilling in exchange for Strategic retaining a carried interest, royalty, or reduced equity stake — spreading exposure across multiple projects while avoiding the shareholder dilution a self-funded drill program requires. The projects below are the company's own designated material/flagship JVs; only figures the company has actually disclosed are shown, nothing here is estimated.
