UraniumRook I Project, Athabasca Basin, Saskatchewan -- 100%-owned, the largest development-stage uranium project in Canada Map

NexGen Energy Ltd. (TSX/NYSE: NXE) is a Vancouver-headquartered uranium developer holding a 100% interest in the Rook I project (32 contiguous mineral claims, ~35,065 hectares, Athabasca Basin, Saskatchewan), anchored by the high-grade Arrow deposit. NexGen's 1 Aug 2024 update of the project economics (in 2023 dollars) gives an after-tax NPV8% of C$2.10B (about US$1.51B) and an after-tax IRR of 25.2% at the Feasibility Study's US$50/lb U3O8 base case; NexGen calls its higher-price cases illustrative. The Feb 2021 Feasibility Study set probable mineral reserves of 239.6 million lbs U3O8 (4,575 kt grading 2.37% U3O8), a 10.7-year initial mine life, and average annual production of 28.8 million lbs U3O8 in years 1-5. The Canadian Nuclear Safety Commission approved the project's Environmental Assessment and issued a Licence to Prepare Site and Construct on 5 Mar 2026 -- the final federal regulatory approval needed -- and full-scale, licensed construction commenced 8 Jun 2026, targeting a ~4-year build (first production not expected before ~2030). Once in production, Rook I is expected to produce up to 30 million lbs U3O8 annually, more than 20% of current global uranium supply and more than half of Western-world output. The same 2024 update raised the pre-production capital estimate from the 2021 study's ~C$1.3B to ~C$2.2B (US$1.58B) and life-of-mine cash operating costs from C$7.58/lb to ~C$13.86/lb U3O8, reflecting inflation since 2021 and advanced engineering, procurement and constructability work.

Milestones are recorded only from a company's own dated disclosure. A milestone with no date shown is one we can confirm was reached but for which no date was disclosed — we don't estimate one. "Not yet reached" means exactly that, not that a date is missing. An "Expected" line likewise only ever reflects the company's own guidance (e.g. a study or permit decision targeted for a stated quarter) — most not-yet-reached milestones have none, and that absence means no such guidance has been disclosed, not that one is overdue.

  • Jurisdiction (40%)9/10

Saskatchewan: Fraser PPI 2025 is 92.90 of 100 (rank 8 of 68), which maps to 9 on this site's scale. NexGen's single, 100%-owned project, Rook I (Arrow), sits in Saskatchewan's Athabasca Basin, a Tier-1 uranium jurisdiction. As a single-asset company it has no jurisdictional diversification, but no distinct jurisdiction risk either.

  • Infrastructure (40%)2.9/10

No confirmed mill, confirmed road access, no confirmed grid power, and no confirmed tailings facility at Rook I Project (Arrow Deposit).

  • Nearby producing mine (20%)Not yet researched

No producing mine within 50 km in our reference list (nearest listed: Key Lake mill (Cameco Corporation), 222 km). That list doesn't cover every mining district yet, so a longer distance isn't scored as remote.

Acquisition Susceptibility

How this is calculated
3.8/10
Unlikely bolt-onFits the takeout profile

A relative ranking of how closely this company matches the profile of juniors that have actually been acquired — not a probability, and not a reason to buy. Acquisitions are rare: only a few dozen significant deals happen a year across a universe of thousands of juniors, so even a high score here describes a long shot. The strongest signal in the research, a producer that already owns part of the company, is scored from its disclosed strategic shareholders. A producer that is a joint-venture or earn-in partner on the project, rather than a shareholder, isn't captured yet.

Technical Report Takeaways

NexGen Energy's only project is Rook I in Saskatchewan's Athabasca Basin, 100% owned and the largest development-stage uranium project in Canada. Measured and indicated resources of 256.7 million lb U3O8 (209.6 measured, 47.1 indicated) include the 239.6 million lb reserve. As of the 6 Aug 2026 earnings call, project financing had not closed: lenders had given non-binding expressions of interest of about US$1.6B, and cash on hand of about C$970M covered roughly 44% of the remaining build cost.
