Japan Gold Corp. is a Canadian mineral exploration company holding a portfolio of roughly 30-35 gold exploration projects (~304,000 hectares) across Japan's three main islands, encompassing over 40 past-producing gold mines and workings shut down mid-20th century under a wartime government moratorium. It was the first foreign mineral-exploration company to hold exploration/mining permits in Japan following a 2012 legal change, and entered a country-wide exploration alliance with Barrick Gold Corporation in February 2020. Recent drilling at the Barrick Alliance Mizobe Project (southern Kyushu) expanded a mineralized interval to 144.0m at 0.7 g/t gold and 2.1 g/t silver from 47.0m depth.

A relative ranking of how closely this company matches the profile of juniors that have actually been acquired — not a probability, and not a reason to buy. Acquisitions are rare: only a few dozen significant deals happen a year across a universe of thousands of juniors, so even a high score here describes a long shot. The strongest signal the underlying research identifies — whether a major already holds a JV, earn-in, or 5–19.9% strategic stake — isn't tracked yet and is absent from this score.

Insiders, Investors & Smart Money

Notable shareholders and insiders whose involvement is worth knowing about, plus what we're seeing from institutional/large-investor activity.

Smart money
4/10

Equinox Partners, a real value-oriented resource-sector hedge fund, holds a substantial 16.6% stake built through cash placements, and institutional ownership overall is unusually high at 45%. Separately, Japan Gold's five-year strategic alliance with Barrick -- which had funded over US$17M of exploration -- was mutually ended in October 2025, so Barrick is no longer a current backer.
