Ivanhoe Electric is advancing the 100%-owned Santa Cruz Copper Project near Casa Grande, Arizona, where a June 2025 Pre-Feasibility Study outlined a 15-year mine life averaging roughly 72,000 tonnes of copper per year at a low cost of about US$1.36/lb after credits; initial construction is targeted for early 2026 with first copper cathode production expected in 2028. The company also holds the Tintic Project in Utah, an earlier-stage exploration opportunity, and is co-founded by Robert Friedland, who also founded Ivanhoe Mines.

A relative ranking of how closely this company matches the profile of juniors that have actually been acquired — not a probability, and not a reason to buy. Acquisitions are rare: only a few dozen significant deals happen a year across a universe of thousands of juniors, so even a high score here describes a long shot. The strongest signal the underlying research identifies — whether a major already holds a JV, earn-in, or 5–19.9% strategic stake — isn't tracked yet and is absent from this score.

Management Team

Founder and Executive Co-Chairman of Ivanhoe Mines. Widely credited with two of the largest base-metal discoveries of the past several decades: the Voisey's Bay nickel-copper-cobalt deposit in Labrador (discovered via Diamond Fields Resources and sold to Inco in 1996) and the Kamoa-Kakula copper discovery in the Democratic Republic of Congo, developed through Ivanhoe Mines into one of the world's largest copper mines. Also carries a well-documented setback early in his career: Galactic Resources' Summitville mine in Colorado, which ended in bankruptcy and a major environmental cleanup. A fixture on Rick Rule's "Living Legends" panels.

Ma'aden, the Saudi Arabian Mining Company, paid US$127.1 million cash for newly issued stock to become a 9.9% shareholder, and holds anti-dilution rights it has used to keep that stake at 9.9%. The two also run a 50/50 exploration joint venture in Saudi Arabia, capitalised at about US$132 million and extended to 2033 under an amended agreement in July 2026. BlackRock, Inc. separately holds 12.4%, an index/passive position rather than a discretionary bet. Working hard against Ma'aden's stake, insiders have sold and never bought: seven different people sold in the last twelve months, including three sizeable individual sales, with no purchases at all on record.
