What goes into it
  • Jurisdiction (40%)5/10

Peru carries real community-relations, permitting-delay, and political-continuity risk typical of Andean mining jurisdictions, alongside an established base of large-scale mining expertise.

  • Infrastructure (40%)7.9/10

Confirmed road access and confirmed grid power at Sombrero Copper-Gold Project, Peru; existing mill and tailings facility not yet researched, counted at a neutral 5/10 until established.

  • Nearby producing mine (20%)Not yet researched

No producing mine within 50 km in our reference list (nearest listed: Catalina Huanca (Catalina Huanca Sociedad Minera S.A.C.), 54 km). That list doesn't cover every mining district yet, so a longer distance isn't scored as remote.

Acquisition Susceptibility

How this is calculated
5.6/10
Unlikely bolt-onFits the takeout profile

A relative ranking of how closely this company matches the profile of juniors that have actually been acquired — not a probability, and not a reason to buy. Acquisitions are rare: only a few dozen significant deals happen a year across a universe of thousands of juniors, so even a high score here describes a long shot. The strongest signal in the research, a producer that already owns part of the company, is scored from its disclosed strategic shareholders. A producer that is a joint-venture or earn-in partner on the project, rather than a shareholder, isn't captured yet.

Teck Resources, one of Canada's largest diversified mining companies, holds 9.9% of Coppernico Metals on a non-diluted basis and has repeatedly anchored financings specifically to defend that level -- most recently an August 2026 raise where Teck bought 1,843,856 units to lift its position from roughly 9.1% back to 9.9%. This is a current, cash-backed vote of confidence from a major; full warrant exercise could push Teck to 10.74%.

Technical Report Takeaways

Coppernico Metals, formerly Sombrero Resources, is exploring the 100%-owned Sombrero copper-gold porphyry project in the Ayacucho region of southern Peru, which covers about 56,400 hectares across 78 concessions. Surface sampling in 2026 at the Nioc target returned 155m averaging 0.54% copper and 70.1m of 0.92% copper and 0.25 g/t gold, and the project's other targets include the multi-kilometre Tipicancha target. In August 2026 the company received approval for a major expansion of its drill permit, and in September 2026 it signed a drilling contract for its next drill program at Sombrero. The project has no mineral resource estimate.
